C'est le dictionnaire indispensable pour un modèliste naval , qui possède plusieurs monographies en anglais et en allemand , pour comprendre les termes et mots de la construction navale , dans ces différentes langues , afin de pouvoir construire ces modèles d'après ces monographies .

If you are a maritime historian, this book is definitely for you. Detail, detail and more detail of every nook and cranny of square- riggers and early steamers. I was looking more for a dictionary for bluewater crusing. If this is the case, you would be better off buying the " Yachtman's Ten Language Dictionary"For the historian this is packed from front to back with reproduced illistrations from its original publication in 1885. Many of my French and German speaking friends were quite impressed with the detail. There are only diagrams and the respective words translated into German or French. The bad thing about this dictionary is that if a word is not shown on the illistrated diagram and you do not know what the term is referring to, you will never know what it is. Overall it is an entertaining book for the modern day cruiser but it is not a necessity on a crusing vessel. Not recommended for a novice sailor.
